Watts Community to Celebrate the Grand Opening of East Century Boulevard Extension and the Groundbreaking of New Housing at Jordan Downs

City and State officials will headline the ceremony hosted by The Michaels Organization and the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles

A ceremonial ribbon-cutting marking the grand opening of the East Century Boulevard extension and a groundbreaking of the next phase of housing at Jordan Downs will be held tomorrow. A public housing community in South Los Angeles, Jordan Downs is now in the midst of a comprehensive revitalization being led by the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) and its private sector partners. This phase of housing is being developed by The Michaels Organization.

WHEN: Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, 12:30 p.m.

WHERE: The ceremony will start with the street opening at the intersection of Grape and Century Boulevard. The groundbreaking will be held at the intersection of Century Boulevard and Lou Dillon Avenue in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles.

DETAILS: The $73 million Phase 1B being developed by The Michaels Organization will offer 135 apartment homes in 16 buildings, all of which will be affordable to families at or below 60 percent of Area Median Income. The extension of Century Boulevard through the site is critical to the redevelopment, providing Jordan Downs residents with better connections to the surrounding community.

Speakers at the event will include:

  • Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti
  • Councilman Joseph Buscaino (District 15)
  • Gary Lee Moore, Los Angeles’ City Engineer
  • Sheila Watson, a resident of Jordan Downs.

Photo opportunities will include the street ribbon-cutting, a parade down East Century Boulevard, the ceremonial groundbreaking, community celebration with refreshments and a variety of booths featuring community organizations.
